As we enter the Year of the Wood Snake, the theme of change emerges as one of its most profound lessons. In Chinese astrology, the Snake is revered for its ability to shed its skin—a natural process that symbolizes renewal, growth, and the release of what no longer serves. This year, the Wood element enhances this transformation with its energy of creativity and expansion, encouraging us to not only embrace change but also actively shape it. Part of this refinement demands that we not only shed and drop the excess baggage, old psychological patterns, behaviours and beliefs, but also that we retreat inwards to reinforce our highest core values, and remember what is most important.
This year is likely to include the presentation and unfolding of what might appear to be dramatic or even chaotic changes and revelations that have been gestating in the collective mind for quite some time.
Know that as you see old systems and structures collapse around you, that these changes too are a necessary shedding. However, withdrawing from excessive consumption of disturbing news sources and media is advised when it compromises your inner tranquility.
Rather, return to and cultivate greater stillness: stop, meditate, spend your time in nature, with loved ones, and being nourished with things that support your joy and greater purpose.

The Wisdom of Shedding
Snakes do not cling to their old skin. When the time comes, they shed it with grace, trusting in the process of renewal. Likewise, we are called to release outdated beliefs, habits, or relationships that limit our growth. Often, holding on feels safer than letting go, even when what we’re clinging to no longer fits who we are becoming. True transformation requires courage—the courage to trust that shedding what’s old makes space for something better.
Reflection: What in your life feels like old skin? Take a moment to journal or meditate on what no longer serves your highest good.
Change as Growth
The Wood element of 2025 emphasizes growth and creativity, offering fertile ground for positive transformation. However, growth doesn’t happen in a straight line. Like the branches of a tree, it requires time, nurturing, and resilience to reach upward while remaining rooted. Change is not just something that happens to us—it is something we can co-create.
Additionally, as a ‘new you’ is being revealed and exposed, remember that that is also a co-creation of the greater field of humanity and the New Earth. Your unique signature vibration is valuable, and contributes to the tone of the greater whole – nurture and attend to your inner state!
Attitude to adopt: Rather than resisting change, approach it with curiosity. Consider it an opportunity to expand into your potential. For example, if your work situation is shifting, ask yourself how this might open doors to new skills, connections, or pathways.
Reframing the Fear of the Unknown
Change often brings uncertainty, and with uncertainty comes fear. But the Snake reminds us that stepping into the unknown is not a loss but a liberation. When we release our grip on the familiar, we open ourselves to new possibilities that were previously inaccessible.
Mantra: “I release the old with gratitude, and I welcome the new with trust.”
Simple Ritual for Letting Go
To align with the transformative energy of the Snake, consider performing a simple ritual:
- Write down what you’re ready to release on a piece of paper.
- Light a candle and take a few deep breaths, visualizing yourself shedding this energy like a snake sheds its skin.
- Safely burn the paper, allowing the flame to transform your intention into action.
- Close by affirming: “I trust the process of change to guide me toward my highest good.”
Embrace the Journey
The Year of the Wood Snake is not about sudden, chaotic upheaval but intentional, graceful transformation. It’s about choosing growth over comfort and trusting the process of becoming. As you move through 2025, remember: every step forward is a shedding, a release, and a rebirth. Embrace the changes with the wisdom of the Snake, and watch as your life transforms in beautiful and unexpected ways.
